SONEMUS Fest

The Society Of New MUsic Sarajevo – SONEMUS (Lat. – let ‘s sound) was established in 2001 with the aim of performing, promoting and educating in the area of contemporary art music.

In its activity, SONEMUS pays a particular attention to the performance and promotion of pieces by composers of modernist aesthetic orientation from Southeast European countries. Besides, SONEMUS intensively works on making connections between institutions, ensembles and musicians who work in the area of contemporary art music, aiming to establish partner relations and build a network of similar institutions, both in Southeast Europe and in the international framework. In line with its program goals, SONEMUS publishes public calls for the submission of scores, organizes competitions for composers and performers, and invitations to similar institutions for establishing regular cooperation of regional and international character.

“Aesthetic of contemporary art music cannot be viewed beyond its ethical position. It assumes openness toward a different opinion, researches limits and margins and does not endeavor to apologetically define “truths” but rather keeps pointing to its own multilayered quality. It is for this very reason that we are eager to make this music sound in Bosnia and Herzegovina (and beyond), so that we can fully lend it our ear.”
